Ethnobotany Program Coordinator

About

Interested in MS students for the Applied Ecology and Conservation Biology program and BS students in the Ethnobotany program.  Particular research interests are in conservation of rare, threatened and endangered species.  Particularly in conservation of traditional ecological knowledge and connections of rare plants with rare animals.  Research on American chestnut and butternut.  Also focused on environmental sustainability of non-timber forest products including: black cohosh, bloodroot, goldenseal, and ramps. Diversification of economic opportunities for small-scale Appalachian farmers including methods to save small woodlots through agroforestry techniques and mushroom and medicinal herb cultivation. Educational outreach in ethnobotany and natural resources, K-12 learning modules, and incorporation of technology in the classroom.
